HYDERABAD: The 18th edition of the Qadir Ali Baig theatre festival is all set to kick off at the Salar Jung Museum and Taramati Baradari in the city from October 5 to 9.
This year’s annual festival, organised to pay tributes to Hyderabad’s theatre doyen late Qadir Ali Baig, promises to be a bouquet of literary-centered plays, focusing on writings from all across the globe.
Curated by theatre revivalist Mohammad Ali Baig, the 18th edition of the festival is a melting pot of diverse genres, spanning traditional puppet theatre, adaptations, biography, poetry, dance, and satire among others. Apart from this, theatre aficionados can also attend three masterclasses organised by Baig, Aanjjan Srivastav, and Sunil Shanbag on topics such as theatre management, the Indian method of acting, and how life influences art.
The five-day theatre festival will see its inaugural session launched with Kolkata-based Padatik Theatre’s ‘Kaagaz Ke Gubbare’, bringing writings of Urdu writer Ismat Chughtai to life. Apart from that outstanding beginning, the festival will also feature performances based on the writings of German writer Bertolt Brecht, songwriter Bob Dylan, Landay (Afghan poetry), Meena Kandasamy, Punjabi poet Lal Singh Dil and German playwright Sibylle Berg.
The festival is presented in association with Telangana Tourism, Salar Jung Museum, Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad and is headlined by the Aparna Group.
